Stop Whining!
By: Greg | July 27th, 2007
I have managed to successfully go back to back days with Arnold Schwarzenegger references in my posts. For this, I am proud. The quote in the subject line which was lifted from the epic Kindergarten Cop was spoken to me by one of my most consistent readers and toughest critics: my brother. He said he basically got tired of me whining after each major transfer that the League was doomed and that it’s not fair, wah wah wah, etc. Even though he is almost six years my junior, the kid usually is chock full of helpful insight.
Considering his comments, I went back and reviewed my recent cornucopia of articles and found a pretty common theme: I’m complaining a lot. A lot of negativity is there and the majority of the articles are reflecting on my lack of satisfaction with some aspect of Portuguese football. Since it’s Friday and I think the kid’s right on a few levels, let’s look at something a bit lighter, like how the recent transfer spell will actually affect the Portuguese league overall…
Top Ten Ways The Fire Sale of Superstars Will Affect the League
10. With Benfica, Porto, and Sporting losing a lot of their superstars and having a lot of cash flowing in, kits, tickets, and souvenirs will drop in price by 50%.
9. Portuguese bars will have to start stocking vodka to accommodate the influx of players from Eastern Europe.
8. There are now enough young Brazilians in Portugal that they can start their own army to take over their former colonizers.
7. Ice hockey ratings are going to go through the roof
6. Gymnastics broadcasts no longer have to compete with Nani’s goal celebrations
5. Porto and Sporting’s Champions League opponents are praying to draw them for the group stages
4. Seeing the exorbitant amount that some team will pay in the Winter Transfer window for Ricardo Quaresma. Money that Porto will never use to buy anyone more than one million Euros.
3. Pictures of the look on Simão’s face when he realizes that he signed for Atletico Madrid and NOT Real Madrid
2. Pictures of the look on Nani’s face when he realizes that he’s going to be riding the bench most of the season.
1. Play well this year and you get to be recognized as the “Next” Nani, Anderson, Simão, or Pepe!
Have a lovely weekend. Keep it real.

Thanks for all the positive comments. Sean – I’m based out of the good ol’ USA in everyone’s favorite state, New Jersey. Glad to have you around, hope to keep you entertained. If not, I’m not getting paid for this so I won’t be too hurt.
