Portuguese Phoenix From the Flames
By: Greg | March 19th, 2008
Okay, enough of the elaborately dumb ruse. I’m back. I got a promotion back in November and realized that I had to make time for work-related minutia. At the time, this added responsibility at my paying job pushed my fantastic blog out of my realm of realistic things to get done during the day. Therefore, I relinquished my position here. I did so reluctantly and with a heavy heart. I was so bothered by not doing this anymore that I rarely checked the Offside once I had decided to make the blog expendable due to my larger workload. However, relatively recently, I had hired a lackey to take care of my minutia and found myself slowly freeing up some time here and there. Here and there became more frequent and I started to consider how to refill that spot.
Almost as if he knew what was taking place, Daryl emailed me to see if I’d help out over on the World Cup Blog with the push to the Euro 2008. Since he begged and pleaded with me rather vociferously, I decided to take him up on the offer of the National Team duties over on the World Cup Blog and also mentioned that I may take this blog back if he delivered me a case of Fun Dip and a francesinha every Friday afternoon. After discussing the logistics of shipping a gravy-soaked, cheese coated sandwich cross country, I obliged and begrudgingly (had my username and password still dutifully memorized) signed on to get back to work.
Therefore I hope, much like Napoleon when he returned to Paris from exile on Elba, that my eleven faithful readers will somehow find their way back into my arms. If you’re new to the site in the past 4 or 5 months, go on back and see what I’m all about and realize what you’ve been missing. Then become part of the inner circle. You’ll love it, I promise.
All joking aside, it’s awesome to be back and I’ll see you back here for BWINLiga fun and over on the Portugal National Team site for the obvious… News on the soon-to-be 2008 Euro champions! Força Portugal!!

Welcome back Greg!
About the Liga:
FC Porto´s advantage is simply obscene (16 points from 2nd place and 20 points from Sporting).
Benfica are (still) doing their best to sink, and give new meanings to the word… Camacho quit, which makes it 2 in the season, and old glory Chalana was called back to the rescue… Their draw against Marítimo this weekend didn´t help, nor did an overall mediocre performance.
Sporting has now some rest. They´ve struggled hard with their mini squad plus injuries (Djaló was out for months, Liedson, Derlei is still and has been for most of the season, etc), which caused them to use midfielder Vukcevic as striker. That and the chronicle need for another top notch centre back (the only 2 that count are Polga and Tonel). Hats off for them with their wins over Bolton (UEFA-great goal from Pereirinha) and their 4-1 destruction of Nacional (da Madeira) - SCP´s midfield in this game was between 19 and 21 years old, almost all “home bread”…
Watch out for the brilliant season of V. Guimarães - they beat Sporting 2-0 at home - and are serious contenders for the 2nd place, which gives way to the champs league. If not Sporting, than please, may it be Guimarães… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vit%C3%B3ria_S.C.
Also watch out for their coach, Manuel Cajuda, and old dinossaur of portuguese football and an expert on bringing back to life dying teams, who has never coached one of the big three.Posted from
