Porto Season Pwnage Round 8

By: Greg | October 26th, 2007

tbwcfWell, Braga drew at Bolton yesterday 1 - 1, summarily crushing another prediction of mine (I had Braga 1-0 winners). It’s gotten so bad that I have readers requesting that I predict their favorite team will lose just to ensure that they’ll be victorious the next time around. Therefore I predict a Porto win this week! This Jornada’s FixtureFacts are brought to you by Lucy Deakins. You may know her as Buck’s love interest in the John Candy / Dan Aykroyd film The Great Outdoors. Others will recall her moving portrayal of Milly Michaelson in the 1986 picture The Boy Who Could Fly. Thanks, Lucy, for your stirring performances and giving to me the energy to put myself out there, emotionally, spiritually, and ecumenically once a day, five times a week.

-=Jornada 8=- All times “military” and Eastern.
FixtureFacts 2.8 features, in the standard issue parenthesis, what actor or actress I feel, in some way, has personified a given club at some point or another. Don’t ask “why?” on most of these, just know that they each make sense (to me) for their own reasons. It’s Friday and I’m having my brain clouded by the prospect of leaving work early today.

Fri. Oct. 26th @ 15:30 – V. Guimarães (Victoria Silvstedt) v. U.d.Leiria (Ben Affleck)

Sat. Oct. 27th @ 12:15 — Belenenses (Paige O’Hara) v. Académica (Angela Lansbury)

Sat. Oct. 27th @ 13:00 – V. Setúbal (Victoria Tennant) v. Paços de Ferreira (David Duchovny)

Sat. Oct. 27th @ 14:45 – Nacional (Chevy Chase) v. Sporting (Christian Bale)

Sun. Oct. 28th @ 11:00 – E.d.Amadora (Natalie Portman) v. Boavista (Wesley Snipes)

Sun. Oct. 28th @ 14:45 — Benfica (Morgan Freeman) v. Marítimo (Shia LaBeouf)*Game of the Week*

Mon. Oct. 29th @ 14:30 — Naval (John Travolta) v. Braga (Alice Braga)

Mon. Oct. 29th @ 14:45 – Porto (Chuck Norris) v. Leixões (Gene Hackman)

I promise a full table regardless of the Porto result on Tuesday with the recap. I’m convinced at this point that since Quaresma and Co. use only this site as an outlet for their Portuguese Football News, they’re not becoming the least bit arrogant due to the lack of a table being displayed. They are thus are avoiding the inevitable hubris that comes with being a perfect seven out of seven so far this year. Therefore, after Porto win their eighth in a row this weekend versus Leixoes, it’s time to reveal to them the precarious perch they stand boldly atop of so that they may fall in round nine to Belenenenenenseseseses. Kisses ALL AROUND.

Greg, this is utter crap, right? Please tell me he’s not going to Spain, at least not to a club that’s not one of the Big Two.

Oh man that article that Martha posted… I don’t like the thought of him anywhere other than Portugal haha (even though it seems that’s pretty much out of the picture for now). But just take the Portugal Selaccão ASAP, Jose…I mean seriously. Going to Valencia does not excite me much…unless it’s for vacation.

Oh yeah, and Greg I’m eagerly awaiting my Deco Portugal jersey’s arrival. He and Messi are my favorite players but Barca’s current jerseys don’t really do it for me and the Portuguese ones are pretty ballin. Since I don’t follow Argentina much either, Portugal was the obvious choice.

LusoCanuck - I expect nothing less.

Martha - I think the chances he goes after a job like this are decent. Porto were big and he made them bigger (through Champions League win). Chelsea were on the upswing but still 50 years without a title until he came. Valencia can be viewed as a team on the cusp of breaking into the top two of Spanish football, especially given their recent successes. They also have three relatively prominent Portuguese players in Uncle Manny Fernandes, Marco Caneira, and Miguel.

Andrew - I’m holding off on buying a jersey until those white ones they’ve been sporting are out. Then it’ll be all Quaresma all the time. Portugal will always be the obvious choice sir.

You see, this is why i don’t comment often…you always say it all and correctly…ur totally right about why he’d go there, I dont think he wants to just inherit another team of ‘galacticos’ he’s still a young man and he wants the challenge of building and taking charge of a team that has a huge fan base, but has underachieved for years and at least take them to europe (you know he’s pissed he didnt get the C-league with Chelsea) This is why i was nearly conviced he was on his way to coach the spurs, now that would rock, talk about sweet revenge.

Greg, I’m troubled because what you say makes a lot of sense. I do, wonder, though, if he has/will reach(ed) a point in his career where he wants a big, flash job rather than the building kind. I suppose it’s a bit of a battle between his ego and his knowledge of where his strengths as a coach really lie.
