Jornada 9 Preview Brought To You By… You Guessed It…
By: Greg | November 2nd, 2007
Frank Stallone.
Another day, another dollar. There’s somewhat of a shot that Porto actually drop points this weekend but I’m not holding my breath. The team’s on a ridiculous roll and while some will say that your odds of losing or dropping points increase as your consecutive wins pile up, I don’t think that kind of thinking can be applied to this Porto team. Most of the league is playing just awful football so far this year. Sporting continue to sputter. Benfica had an underwhelming start which was marked by the early departure of their manager Fernando Santos. The bright spots Maritimo and the Vitoria Twins Setubal and Guimãraes are still in the process of proving that they belong near the top. All of these facts come together and provide juggernaut Porto with a rather favorable landscape for just mowing down opponents. Maybe O Belem are up to the task of taking down the blue and white striped behemoth. Although I unfortunately doubt it at this point.
-=Jornada 9=- All times Eastern. FixtureFacts 2.9 is what each team would be called in bizarro world. These are also known as ‘anagrams.’
Today – Porto (Troop) v. Belenenenenses (Be Seen Lens) @ 15:30
The Day After Today – Leixões (Ole Sexi) v. Braga (A Garb) @ 10:30
The Day After Today – P. Ferreira (A Riper Ref) v. Benfica (Face Bin) @ 14:45
The Day After Tomorrow – U.d.Leiria (I Air Duel) v. Nacional (A Lion Can) @ 11:00
The Day After Tomorrow – Boavista (A Vast Bio) v. V.Setúbal (Veals Tub) @ 11:00
The Day After Tomorrow – Académica (Me A Cicada) v. E.d.Amadora (Armada Ode) @ 11:00
The Day After Tomorrow – Sporting (Pig Snort) v. Naval (La Van) @ 14:45
The Day After the Day After Tomorrow – Marítimo (I Omit Ram) v. V.Guimarães (Samurai Veg) @ 14:45
The Porto match is obviously one to watch and the Maritimo v. V.Guimaraes match should be rather intriguing, especially in seeing how Makukula comes back after his penalty screw up against Benfica. Sporting could be without João Moutinho and Vukcevic due to knocks. It’s only against Naval so I’m sure they’ll be fine, but hey… Ya never know. Enjoy your weekend. I’ll be moving bulk furniture into my apartment and finally getting away from the worst neighbors in the history of apartment living. Kisses ALL AROUND!!

I actually did most of this bloggage last night since I was up late due to my nephew face planting on the corner of a wall and thus having to go to the hospital.

Interesting that Luso says that because I’ve been thinking the same thing. Sporting (Pig Snort haha) does seem like a pretty legit team from what I’ve read here and Wikipedia…I just wish I could see actual games (my dorm gets ESPN and ESPN2 and that’s it with no chance of changing that).
After reading about the players on Wiki one kid from the youth program caught my eye. Since the information can be sketchy sometimes I thought I should ask here because I’ve never heard about him elsewhere: Andre Martins? 266 goals in 208 games at youth level? Is he something to look out for in the future or was he just fabricated by somebody editing Wikipedia. There wasn’t a whole lot of info on him.

I have no idea about the guy. We’ll see how his free agency plays out and maybe he’ll resurface. The YouTube on him has him playing in sandboxes and wearing really high up shorts. The numbers ARE staggering, but it depends what they’re considering youth levels. I scored five or six goals a game when I played youth level soccer, which have been translated into squadoosh, so it all really depends on who he scored those goals playing for and against.
