Jornada 10 Wrap Up Cursed By You Guessed It… Frank Stallone
By: Greg | November 14th, 2007
Heyyyyyyyyyyy everybody. Sorry I didn’t make it around to bloggin’ yesterday, I got a small pang of concsience and decided to let my “career” get in the way. That won’t happen again. I promise. Let’s get right down to it. Maritimo won 2-0 with Makukula again firing one home for the club. Here’s them there scores again…
Belenenses 1 - 1 Leixões
V.Guimarães 0 - 0 P.Ferreira
Naval 1 - 0 U.d.Leiria
V.Setubal 3 - 1 Académica
Benfica 6 - 1 Boavista
Braga 3 - 0 Sporting
E. Amadora 2 - 2 Porto
Nacional 0 - 2 Maritimo
Heroes of the Week — Mauricio and Mateus, Estrela da Amadora – Just when Porto looked like they were getting back to their winning ways, this week’s heroes of the… err umm week… struck and struck hard. Mauricio tallied in the 84th minute and Mateus converted an injury time penalty to shock Porto and earn E.d.Amadora a 2-2 draw. In spite of a spontaneous ejaculation inducing performance by Quaresma, the Curse of Frank Stallone lived to see another jornada with Porto dropping points. Penalty YouTubage below. Amadora are the guys who are wearing the Sbarro employee uniforms.
Goats of the Week — Sporting — Yes, ALL OF THEM. I know Braga’s nothing to sneeze at. I’m well aware that the Arsenalistas were home against Paulo Bento Box’s side. I’m also aware that Sporting have had an underwhelming start to the domestic and European seasons. But 3-0? The Lisbonians looked inept and out of sorts. Braga looked like a team full of youthful vigor and heaps of confidence in spite of the recent managerial turmoil and mediocre start to the campaign. The international break can’t come at a better time for Sporting, because right now they just plain suck. YouTubage of the carnage below.
Clean Sheets of the Week — Nilson (V.Guimarães), Peçanha (Paços de Ferreira), Wilson Junior (Naval), Paulo Santos (Braga), and Marcos Aurelius (Maritimo)
As of right now, the most interesting development has Benfica a mere four points behind leaders Porto. However, the Fleshes-Color’s 6-1 scoreline is a bit deceptive. They played rather close until Boavista went a man down. Even then the Checkerboards managed to tie the game at 1-1 before Benfica fired home five goals in the last 28 minutes.
The 5th and 6th goal were scored by Nuno Gomes.
That sentence is isolated because I was doing a personal experiment. I wanted to see if typing that would cause my head to explode like the guy in Scanners. While my cranium did, in fact, endure some relatively severe momentary pressure, I survived to blog another day.
For a table, see below. For a good time, call Jenny at 867-5309. See you tomorrow. Kisses ALL AROUND!!

How much longer do you think Quaresma will be in Portugal? Frankly, I’m stunned there’s not more talk about him right now, leaving over the winter — his from has been great, including on the big European stage (he had Liverpool peeing in their pants). Why are there not QUARESMA TO INTER NOW lies flying around in the press?
Look at that, Nuno Gomes fit, playing, AND scoring. Whoa.

Wow that Sporting game looked pretty ugly.
I’m looking forward to the international break. Since I was too lazy to figure out the math for what Portugal need to qualify I took the obvious route and looked it up on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2008_qualifying_Group_A
Thought I’d share it just incase others wanted to see.
P.S. Marcos Aurelius ahahahahaha. Keep em coming.

Because president Moratti is a very careful and sensible man and the journalists know that. Inter have a big squad, but it clearly wouldn’t be a mistake to hire another one or two midfielders in winter due to the club’s injury problems. Moreover, O Ciganinho could be an indispensable player in Inter’s CL campaign.
But keep in mind that the little gossip about him is a good sign - Moratti has always loved surprises.Posted from

Well now there’s talk of renewal, too! All this reason is madness, I tell you.
Carlos, I was using Inter as an example as the sort of big club the papers like to connect with players like Quaresma (or with Quaresma, specifically, there were rumors all summer, and again this past fall) — I just can’t believe there aren’t more stories about his going to a big club.
(And you think Moratti’s buys are sensible? Really? (: Where the heck is the attacking mid they’ve needed since last season, dammit?)

Nuno Gomes is playing some good football this season. He already scored five times for the championship. Apparently the guy only knows to score goals when he as large, static and tall striker beside him. He played some of his best football when Brain Deane was in Benfica (in the late nineties) and now we have Cardozo. Martha, I remeber you asked what did I think about Caedozo a couple of weeks ago - To be fair I the jury is still out there. He has a tremendous left foot but apparently is not that good with his head, which, for a 1.90 striker is pretty shocking… Apparently we payed 9 million € for a left foot. Lets wait and see.

God dammit, Greg, your suspicious spam filter grabbed an utterly brilliant comment of mine. It needs rescuing, I think.

There was even talks of Quaresma going to Real… I think this is just time to get his market value go all the way up…
PT plays tomorrow against Armenia (Leiria), who have just sacked their coach, and wednesday against Finland. We must win these two matches.
Carvalho is out with an injury, so is Andrade, but Meira and Bruno Alves (good jumping) have been decent. We might even see Pepe get his first cap.
Miguel too is out, which opened the spot for Abel (Sporting).
Manuel Fernandes is back on the list. Deco being out, we might see Maniche + M Veloso starting, with 2 wingers (2 out of Simao/Quaresma/Nani) + striker (H ALmeida) + C Ronaldo - MU have been playing +/- like this, without Rooney. Wouldn’t be too strange, considering how much he’s (CR) scoring for MU.
If all goes well, would also not be surprised to see M Fernandes come in, sometime in the second half, along side M Veloso… I still believe that with these two in midfield PT can, or will eventually, play at their best, with or without playmaker Deco.
