Chelsea Defense May Stink Next Year
By: Greg | April 16th, 2007
Apparently Jose Mourinho is looking to raid his former team further with a link to a move for Porto’s Brazilian defender Pepe. The 24 year old Brazilian would add depth to Chelsea’s defensive back line which has seen the likes of Michael Essien lining up on the right. Pepe, whose full given name is Képler Laveran Lima Ferreira, is keen on a move to Chelsea, saying “It would be very difficult to reject an offer to follow Mourinho.”
Moving for the young player would not only give Chelsea a potential starter/excellent bench defender in case of injury, it would also decrease the likelihood of someone like Essien being forced to play defense. Suffice it to say, based on his performance and consistency of minutes this year and given the amount he’s currently rated at (10 million pounds), it could shape up as the steal of the summer.
The week’s not technically over yet with Benfica and Braga still to play tonight, but here are the scores from the weekend. I’ll give a full recap tomorrow when tonight’s game is completed and the coming week’s picture is clearer.
Maritimo 0 – 4 Sporting CP
Porto 2 – 1 Academica
E.d.Amadora 0 – 3 Belenenses
Paços de Ferreira 1 – Naval 1
Setubal 1 – 3 Beira Mar
U.d.Leiria 1 – 1 Boavista
Aves 4 – 3 Nacional

Nice play on words. Got to love that seducing skunk. They should hold out for more money from Chelsea if Pepe is that good.

What the player is rated is NEVER what Chelsea pays. There’s fair market value then there’s Chelsea market value. Thanks for the comment.
