Benfica Ensures Three Horse Race
By: Greg | March 20th, 2007Benfica kept the heat on FC Porto by defeating Estrela da Amadora yesterday 1-0. Portuguese international Armando Petit (No, not THAT Petit), scored on a near-midfield free kick which was deflected off of the head of a defending E.d.Amadora player. See how thrilled this made the keeper here.
The Benfica win coupled with Sporting’s Saturday defeat of Porto 1-0 on a gorgeous free kick goal means that the three horse race that is the Portuguese SuperLiga has gotten even tighter. Porto is top of the table on 52 points, with Benfica breathing down their necks at 51 and Sporting still in the hunt at 46 points.
The picture may become a bit clearer on April 1st when Benfica try to avenge their 3-2 defeat earlier in the year by hosting good friends Porto.

Welcome, Greg! The Portugal channel was taken from my TV service, so you’re all I’ve got. Lots of discussion about Rui Costa, if you please. (:
