Anderson a Threat to English Unemployment? Apparently Not.
By: Greg | June 29th, 2007
Why was this whole debacle even an issue? I understand the potential for protecting English jobs by keeping a bottleneck on immigration through issuing work permits and work visas, but it’s frigging football, are you serious? Maybe I really don’t truly understand the motivation behind the rules or even why there in place, but I think it has to do with socioeconomic protection. If this is the case, then will they block a Chelsea swap for Deco since Lampard’s larger salary will be pumped into another economy?
Consider, for a moment, the argument Manchester United made: His youth is the reason why he couldn’t participate in the required percentage of international matches and he would bring great talent to the Premier League. Both very true, although the second is slightly speculative. However, think for a second about what a governmental body is hearing arguments on… It’s FOOTBALL!
It’s not like the guy is a terrorist threat or on some no-fly list somewhere, he’s going to go kick a ball around on grass. He’s not bringing a bleeding bazooka into the country, just a rocket for a leg. The fact that there’s even any real work regulation regarding a GAME is borderline absurdity to me.
Do they regulate any guys or gals who are looking to ply their trade in Dungeons and Dragons in England? I’d love to be a fly on the wall at one of those meetings: “Yes, your honor, we need DethStryke006’s work visa, he plays a mean game of Halo 2 and is a level 74 wizard, of which England only has one, so our wizardry quotient would double!” Ridiculous. Whomever is on this committee needs to get their fat bureaucratic asses out of those plush leather chairs and do something useful like clean the public toilets or raise money for cancer research. If I’m missing some major positive tenet of this rule that he got around anyways, please let me know so I can be less ignorant but still just as handsome.

This is the same organizing body that kept Christian Bolaños, a Costa Rican mid who was voted as the 3rd best player during the last World Club Cup, from signing for Charlton last year, their reasoning was that he had not played enough times for CRNT during the previous year….which is simply ridiculous since even Benitez and Gerard testified to his skill level being beneficial to the English game….at the end when Pardew took over they didnot want him anymore and karma gave them the drop
He just signed with OB in Denmark, hopefully he shows the bureaucrats and Pardew his skill level
