A New Competition From Colin Farrell’s Nutritionist
By: Greg | July 12th, 2007
“I don’t go to the gym or practice yoga. And the closest thing I have to a nutritionist is the Carlsberg Beer Company. I just have the appetite of a pigeon.” – Colin Farrell. In the spirit of Denmark, green beer bottles, and Irish actors with sex tapes, the BWINLIGA and Liga Vitalis (the Portuguese minor leagues) bring you the latest and greatest 32 team tournament.
The draw for the first round took place today and only involved the 16 teams of the Liga Vitalis. Each of the first three rounds will be a single elimination affair. The second round will see the bottom six teams from last year’s BWINLIGA finsh plus the two promoted teams from Liga Vitalis thrown into the fray. The third and final knockout round will have the top eight teams from the BWINLIGA added to the draw.
After the knockout stages are complete, the remaining eight teams will be clumped together into two groups of four and the surviving two teams will face each other in the finals for a spot in the UEFA Cup.
The first round will feature the following matchups:
Olhanense v. Gondomar
Vizela v. Varzim
Gil Vicente v. Penafiel
Fátima v. Santa Clara
Estoril-Praia v. Desportivo das Aves
Freamunde v. Beira-Mar
Portimonense v. Rio Ave
Trofense v. Feirense
A new cup competition should be nice, given the fact that fans have cared about the Taça de Portugal in recent years as much as the average person cares about a winged-mouse’s waste portal. The league schedule got released today as well, but that’s getting saved for tomorrow, just in case I end up peeling myself off the floor after Friday Happy Hour or if the big news is that Simão is still maybe going to Liverpool.
