Jornada 25 Preview: Time for Porto to “Wrrrap it Uppp”

By: Greg | April 4th, 2008

bballstarsI recall as a young kid having my friend Elliot over (who is still incidentally 15-20 years later still one of my best friends) to play Zelda and Baseball Stars on my Nintendo. The TV and Nintendo “game room” was essentially my parents’ basement. When it got late enough, my father would come to the top of the basement steps and start droning on in an annoying voice saying “wrrrap it uppp.” Why do you care? You probably don’t, but when I read about Porto getting ready to “wrap up” the league this week, I get a joyous tear that peeks out from the corner of my eye as I reminisce about the times that had me and my friend running all over Hyrule and building up our Baseball Stars team by playing the Lovely Ladies. Let’s play the harp and erase the clouds around the borders of your screen and get to the present time from this drawn out flashback…

Porto face off against mediocre Estrela da Amadora this Saturday and will probably win to tie up their third successive League Championship. The champagne popping will undoubtedly be somewhat overshadowed by the dark cloud that is the Golden Whistle deliberations. It’s also probably Quaresma’s last Portuguese League title, as he’s almost certainly headed for some even bigger European club in the summer transfer window. While Porto are kissing and grab-assing in the locker room this Saturday, other teams still have matches to play and European qualification to hope for…

-= Jornada 25=- All times are still local to their, err umm, locales. This week’s edition of FixtureFacts has each team’s results against Porto this year, showing you just who’s to blame for the blue and white stripers’ third consecutive league title…

Sporting hosts Braga - pay attention to Braga; Vitória should kick Paços and mind you, Benfica has to play Boavista away, which is never an easy one - Boavista are probably fired up with all the golden whistle thing…
