The Moutinho News
By: Greg | September 11th, 2007
Much like the diminutive Sporting midfielder, these are short, quick notes on some things that are so yesterday, quite today, and shall be tomorrow:
** I know I’ve been screaming that each and every game from here on out is make or break, but this game with Serbia tomorrow has to be taken seriously. Serbia take a bit more chances than other teams in this group, and will probably not play a huge number of men behind the ball. This may work well for Portugal’s open, flowing attack. Then again, if Portugal opens up and brings a lot of thump forward, they may get caught out and that back line, if it is the same heterogeneous mix as Saturday, may be exploited and look about as organized as Britney Spears’ opener for the VMAs.
** Manny Machado makes himself coaching casualty number two this year after “resigning” from Academica. Academica are apparently interested in Rogerio Goncalves who is the present boss of Liga disHonra side Beira-Mar. In the interim, Ze Nando will be taking time away from his busy schedule of peddling shitty Asti Spumante sparkling wine to manage the last place club.
** Derlei to be Der-laid up for almost the entire season. Sporting first choice striker Derlei was injured in training recently and it has been revealed that he’s going to be out the majority of the rest of the season, if not for the whole campaign. I’d personally like to see Sporting take a chance on Yannick Djalo as opposed to new signing Purovic. I feel Djalo he brings a nice balance of speed and finishing ability with his game. Sporting are renowned for having youngsters cut their teeth by throwing them out there and expecting the world, so Djalo should be afforded the same treatment this year and the ability to revive his partnership up front with Liedson which netted the Portugal U21 five tallies last season.
** The draw against Poland was most unfortunate, but it really should never have been that close. We dominated meaningful ball possession but struggled to build concrete, constant attacking energy. The game against Serbia should provide us with a clearer picture of the eventual starting XI with more time potentially given to the likes of ‘lil João Moutinho and hopefully the start to Quaresma.
I’ll be at ANOTHER golf outing tomorrow (gee, what a tough life I have) but I may put together some musings tonight as well to tide you over until the Thursday’s post game analysis. Look for tomorrow to be a general editorializing of sorts, with Thursday’s male cow refuse touching on Portugal’s win against Serbia and Friday to feature a preview of the 4th Jornada. I’m sorry to take the surprise out of it all, but I’m sure at least one of my ten faithfuls out there has obsessive-compulsive disorder and would love to have some sort of calming alignment in their lives. I consider all of my beloved children readers when constructing this blog, and I welcome all OCD sufferers, as I hope to bring stability as well as tranquility into your tormented lives. KISSES ALL AROUND! Força Portugal!! Free Carl Lee!!!

I’m hoping that they pull through in this game…my trash-talking to my friends hasn’t been backed up sufficiently yet.

Yeah, Andrew, shit talking has to be backed off for a while I believe until we can look to a 3-0 or 4-0 result.
