I Will Be Out of the Office From Monday - Thursday of Next Week

By: Greg | October 12th, 2007

hugoaYup, that’s what my voicemail at work is going to say when I program it later on today. Since I have to travel to Colo-fucking-rado Springs (I’m sure it’s lovely and all, but I JUST signed a lease on my spiffy new downtown apartment and I want to move in all-poopin’-ready). Furthermore, since I’m going with the head honcho, every seminar from 7 AM to 5 PM will have to be dutifully attended with the proverbial bells on. Not to mention the inevitable dinners with said honcho and asshole associates I can’t stand and have to pretend to like. Hence, I will have next to no time to put together any musings for my eleven faithful readers. Let me tell you, there’s nothing more awful than knowing you let down eleven people you’ll probably never meet.

While I’m away, catch the Azerbaijan game tomorrow as well as the game against Team Borat in Kazakhstan. They should win both of these games running away. Here’s how I hope they’ll line up for these matches:

Cristiano Ronaldo - Hugo Almeida (see picture @ top left) - Ricardo Quaresma
João Moutinho - Deco - Maniche
Miguel - Ricky Carvalho - Bruno Alves - Paulie Ferreira
Ricardo

If those three up front can’t notch 4-5 goals in each game, then they should just pack it in and forget about Euro 2008. I’ll miss you all dearly. I’ll see you again a week from today. While I’m out, I have this guy below guarding my blog, so don’t try to mess with my turf. Força Portugal and all that jazz.

The saying “with bells on” basically means that you’re doing something with a certain amount of excitement or energy. I was being sarcastic there. And I will be calling all of the boss’ asshole associates “anus partners” from now on, thank you.

Well, 2 games and 6 points. Just!

We sure know how to make things more difficult than they need be. And hey where the hell did we pull the new striker out from?

Ceasar - Makukula plays for Maritimo in Madeira. Before that he played in Spain. He’s of Congolese heritage but was raised in Portugal and naturalized as a young kid. He played for the national youth teams at just about every level. He’s been in excellent form lately and Scolari obviously took notice.

If he can contribute like this in the future, he just may be the solution to our striker dilemma.

    Thanks Luis
I’d like to give Scolari credit for bringing him up also but I suspect it may have had more to do with the fact that he had no other choice?
Vas Te, Gomes, Postiga and Tomes are all with injuries. He really didn’t have much choice in the matter I’m thinking. But regardless, it may have brought to light a talent that normally wouldn’t have had a chance.
I’m with you, wouldn’t it be great if he was the striker we’ve been needing.

I expect Makukula will push Postiga off the team. Vaz Te is not playing much (and incorrectly when he is played I will add), so he is out. Similarly, is Postiga even starting anymore. Tomas, meh, Makukula brings same or even stronger physical properties and is years his junior.

Frankly, I’d like to see either Almeida or Makukula lead the front, with Nunoid subbing in for a 2way midfielder when we are behind.

    Trinco, your dead right.
My vote is for Almeida and Makukula to be our 2 strikers. Time to let No Goals retire.

Now, what do you guys think about CR being made captain? Too young or only to be expected?

Personally I think Carvalho or maybe Simao should have been given the C. CR is going to be around a long time and he will eventually get it. I know he plays his heart out and does lead by example.

Thanks for holding this joint down while I was gone. I hope black Hercules didn’t scare anyone away. Makukula and Almeida are more straight up, English-esque forwards than what we’re accustomed to seeing in the Portuguese side. I don’t care if they’re prototypical Martian strikers, if they score goals, they’re more forward than we’ve had recently so they can play up front for me any time.

Carvalho deserves to be on the captain’s list. Nuno just needs to retire and spend some long days relaxing. I think Ronaldo is the right choice for the arm band. He’s the future of the team and is already the offensive leader. He seems to thrive when he’s given more responsibility. It’s a smart move to expect more sooner from these starlets. Nani, Veloso, Quaresma, Moutinho and others have talent and capability beyond their years. All they need is maturity and the sooner we treat them like big boys, the sooner they’ll start acting like it.

lol…you will get in trouble. Hang in there. One day it will just work. :-) I had a rough few months, but I’m starting to make some progress again.

After watching some national team Euro 2008 qual highlights, I was happy with how distributed our scoring sheet looks. Ronaldo is a consistent scorer, but otherwise, it’s all over the place. Gomes (oh no)he did score a couple, Postiga, Tiago, Deco, Simao, Carvalho, Nani, Almeida now, and others. Everyone contributes. If we had a consistent striker that can guarantee that first goal in the first half…boy that would be something.
