Go Out There and Break a Leg!
By: Greg | March 22nd, 2007In keeping with the daily theme of life since he was ten years old, Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo woke up this this morning and found out that someone else had joined the long line of people who want to beat him up. This time it’s Stijn Stijnen, who when he’s not busy watching over the Belgian equivalent of Ben Benson’s steakhouse, is between the pipes for the Belgian national team.
As quoted on Eurosport.com and various other news outlets, Stijnsen laid down the gauntlet by saying “After two minutes we will have massacred [Ronaldo] so much that he will have to leave the field on a stretcher.” Since Ronaldo’s busy uncorking shots from 25-30 yards out, Stijnsen may have trouble giving him a swift punch to the back of the head. I’m sure Ronnie will survive, even without the likes of Wayne Rooney to sit on and crush the chest any offending Belgian. I mean, he DOES have Manwich Maniche, who can serve as his sumo bodyguard.
Ronaldo and the rest of the Selecção may not be able to walk down the street so freely if they don’t manage to beat Belgium this coming Saturday in their Euro 2008 qualifier. Portugal are in real danger of making the road to Euro 2008 even more precarious if they don’t show up to play against the birthplace of those fantastic waffles.
If they do win, they’ll have to do it without the services of Brazilian-born midfielder Deco (hand injury) and Simao (suspension). Portugal currently sit fourth in their group with seven points and a game in hand. Here’s how the rest of the group currently shakes out:
| Country | GP | W | D | L | GD | Pts |
| Finland | 5 | 3 | 2 | 0 | 5 | 11 |
| Serbia | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 5 | 10 |
| Poland | 5 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 10 |
| *Portugal* | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 5 | 7 |
| Belgium | 5 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 7 |
| Kazakhstan | 5 | 0 | 2 | 3 | -6 | 2 |
| Armenia | 4 | 0 | 1 | 3 | -5 | 1 |
| Azerbaijan | 4 | 0 | 1 | 3 | -7 | 1 |

Hey Greg, what the hell happened to Deco’s hand? It must be a hardcore injury to keep him from play a game in which using his hands is, you know, illegal.

You know, I considered making a quip about that myself but then I realized that he needs it to applaud the fans in thanks when he comes off the pitch. He actually hurt it against Recereativo de Huelva in a collision with Aitor.

Valid point. Deco is not the type to ever slight the fans — thanking them is clearly an important part of his game.

I thought he injured it patting himself on the back.
