Jornada 25 Recap: Porto-guese League Champions
By: Greg | April 8th, 2008As you all know by now, this was Porto’s weekend to pat themselves on the back for their third consecutive league championship. There’s still plenty to play for what with relegation and European spots still readily available. Don’t forget that I’m probably the best thing to happen to Portuguese football since Cristiano Ronaldo purchased his first bottle of hair gel. So don’t give up on the Portuga blog just yet. Besides, what else are you going to look at on the interwebs, the latest Megan Fox upskirt video?
P. Ferreira 2 - 2 V.Guimarães
Académica 0 - 0 V.Setúbal
Porto 6 - 0 E.d.Amadora
Marítimo 1 - 0 Nacional
Leiria 0 - 2 Naval
Sporting 2 - 0 Braga
Boavista 0 - 0 Benfica
Leixões 1 - 2 Belenenses
Hero of the Week — Yannick Djalo, Sporting – In the span of two minutes, Yannick managed to double his league goal total for the season from two to four. He’s been plagued by ineffectiveness and knocks all season. However, now that Sporting need him to make that final push towards the Champions League spots, he shone brilliantly and managed to pump two home to bring Sporting within two points of second place Benfica.
Goat(s) of the Week — Estrela da Amadora – Six to zero? Are you guys kidding me? Porto are good. Head and shoulders better than the rest of the league good. Not six-nil good. Come the hell on. What a complete lack of pride and professionalism shown by the “star” of Amadora. The Porto fans had BALLOONS waving about. That would piss me off more than those ThunderStix, to the point that I wouldn’t let more than two goals in, nonetheless SIX. At that point you have to show some semblance of pride and kick somebody in the shins, get a red, do SOMETHING. Even if you were to be sent off, it’s not like you were making a huge difference before the first HALF DOZEN went in, so I doubt the team will miss your presence on the pitch. It was an emphatic way for Porto to put their stamp on the season overall, but an equally apathetic performance from Estrela da Amadora. Enjoy the cheesy techno beats of the game recap video below and try to resist the urge to yell “MORTAL KOMBAT!!!” in the first couple of seconds.
Clean Sheets of the Week — Pedro Roma (Academica), Eduardo (V.Setubal), Helton (Porto), Marcos (Maritimo), Taborda (Naval), Rui Patricio (Sporting), Peter Jehle (Boavista), and Quim (Benfica)
Any news regarding Porto going forward this season now will most likely be negative with the inevitable punishment that will be handed down from the Golden Whistle proceedings. Otherwise, this blog is all about positivity and uplifting news, clearly. Kisses ALL AROUND!!

An older and more mature Yannick might just be one the answers to the question you put in the WCUPBLOG, about strikers and all… After his huge time stoped due to injury, he seems to have returned with a vengeance…

Apparently, the Gunners are after right-back (or right wing back, whatever) Bosingwa (actually, he was a winger before, which you can notice by his style of play), for 8 milllion… I say he’s worth more than that.

Pedro I hope your right because being a Liverpool fan I feel left out that my team doesn’t have any portuguese players on it. Now if we can also finally get Quaresma then maybe we can finally win the league. haha

I don´t have the feeling Quaresma is that atractive, for a guy like Benitez… I also have no idea who they have on the wings. Liverpool seems to me a very contained team. It´d be good because after a Liverpool experience, Quaresma wouldn´t fail counters anymore, like he did against Italy (OK, he still scored one)…
Bosingwa is, for me, currently one of the best right-backs. Likes to attack, handles the ball well and crosses in brilliantly. In FC Porto he´s always running up and down, so he´s also got the pace. For me, he´s very good.

Liverpools wingers right now are
Babel
Penant
Gerard (sometimes)
Kewel (being let go)and that’s about it, so they could definitely use more and the important thing is the team speed/pace. It’s midfield is very slow for the english game right now.
That’s why they seem to do well in Europe (just knocked Gunners out!) and not so well domestically. The European game is a slower ball possession game but in England if you don’t know where the ball is going before you get it your dead. Plus you have to run onto the ball or the opposition is already there waiting for you.
That’s why Quaresma would be a good addition, but I think he’s going to end up in Spain.
Your right I really like Bosingwa. Looks so comfortable and strong on the ball.

If Quaresma goes to Spain, it won’t be to Barça…
I wouldn’t mind seeing in ENG… But I also think he’d suffer a bit…
